How to Add a New Intro Video to Old YouTube Videos

The intro to your YouTube videos can make or break your audiences first impression with your channel.

After much consideration, YouTube recently rolled out a new feature allowing users to create a distinctive intro for their videos , making it easier to build a consistent brand fans will recognize.

This week’s #SocialMediaMinute will teach you how to add an intro video to YouTube videos including adding new intro videos to old YouTube videos.

How to insert intro videos into YouTube

Consider the Following

YouTube will only allow you to use a video up to 3 seconds as an intro which is just enough time to flash your logo, along with any jingle that is recognizable to your brand.

You can choose whether to add a video intro to all of your videos, or just the ones you’ve uploaded after a certain date .

And don’t worry, you can always remove or change the intro later.

Note that these intros may not be used as:

  • Ads
  • Sponsorships
  • Product placements

YouTube also recommends not using this on channels that use their videos as advertisements.

Takeaway

YouTube seems to recognize the power of branded videos and viewers seem to prefer them too. Now for those of us who haven’t included an intro into past or current YouTube videos, this new feature is a great way to revamp your content.

However, be sure to ask yourself if it would make sense at all to add an intro video. For example, I create my own intros as a part of the original production so I won’t be using this feature too much.

  1. That’s pretty cool – I didn’t know YouTube introduced this feature. The few vids I’ve done before I’ve always edited an intro sequence in. Clear and concise instructions Jacob – smashed it.

    • @stuart_davidson:disqus, yeah this feature was a quite rollout, I just happened to stumble across it last week. Happy to introduce it to you and thanks for the compliment, my friend!

  2. Hi Jacob,

Love this feature! It’s smart for Youtube and users to get their intro down pat. People have seen lame approaches to video for a while; stand out with an energetic, hard to miss intro to boost those views, share value and increase brand awareness.

    Thanks!

    • Exactly @ryanbiddulph:disqus! You have such a limited time to catch a viewers attention, it’s one of the reasons I finally got in front of the camera. I bet you’ve seen similar results with the videos you produce. Appreciate the comment as always!

  3. Whoa, I didn’t know YouTube actually added a new feature, it’s good to
essentially have an intro rather than just having your video a plain pop
    out and play.

I hope that YouTube will add a lot more updates
that can improve the customization of videos like what other video
editing or movie maker platforms do.

Thanks for the update, hope to hear more cool extras.

Have a great day ahead, Jacob!

  4. I think the YouTube intro is a smart idea to expose your brand, logo, message or anything before the actual purpose starts.

Jacob, thanks for this. Well, I haven’t visited YouTube for weeks now if I wasn’t mistaken. I will try to check my account and observe the updates and changes. It’s wholly a helpful video, short and direct to the point.

To wrap it up, this is a great article and informative. Marketers will surely gonna give it a shot and craft an interesting introduction for their videos. I found this post shared on Kingged dot com, the Internet marketing social bookmarking site, and I “kingged” it and left this comment.

    • This is exactly why I make these! So happy to help @DebiStangeland:disqus and appreciate you taking the time to let me know it did! I’m going to go thank Wade on Pinterest right now too!

  5. Thanks a lot! I had no idea that was even possible, but to my surprise it is!! =) I just got a new intro made and I’m looking forward to adding it to all of my new videos! Thanks again
